"You used to find me in the gym, running, or playing competitive sport to stay active. I would get a real sense of achievement from pushing myself and my body to my personal limits during training and games. Today I prefer more of an active-leisure approach. Paddleboarding, Surfing (badly), Social Sport and getting out amongst nature is what makes me happy and keeps me sane. Keeping active with friends and doing what-feels-good is my new Physical Activity focus, trying new things and exploring different areas of our community that I may not have experienced before.

Being active in our beautiful outdoors is what motivates me. Going for a walk, discovering a new beach or getting on or in the water is what gives me a sense of calm now. Regular Physical Activity keeps me balanced, it can be easy to become overwhelmed with the stresses of life and it is so important to take time for yourself. Physical Activity helps me keep things in perspective, gives me time to think and lets me focus on what is really important in life."

Kelly works closely with secondary schools (e.g. Board of Trustees, Principals, Directors of Sport, Sport Coordinators, TICs), and key stakeholders in the youth sport space (e.g. Regional and Local Sporting Organisations) to provide strategic leadership to the school sport sector, with a particular focus on increasing the quality and quantity of sporting opportunities that meet the needs of the Waikato region’s young people.
