Following the launch of This is ME in Te Awamutu in July, the local working group have been working together to lead activity opportunities for women and girls in the community. Walking Netball has begun at TA Sports, with a number of women coming together at 10am on Wednesday’s to participate in a slowed down version of the game of netball.

With no running or jumping allowed Walking Netball is designed to suit all, from those that haven’t played since they were at school to those that have never picked up a netball before. There has been a lot of laughter and fun so far and the working group looks forward to seeing where they are able to grow the game and include more local women and girls in 2020.
 
The local working group has also launched a Facebook page for Te Awamutu women and girls as a place to connect with information about activity opportunities and with one another. The page is a supportive space for women and girls to discuss physical activity and it provides the opportunity for local sport and active recreation providers and community members to share what exists in the community to support females to get active.
