Thanks to Sport New Zealand’s Tu Manawa funding, approximately 500 young people will have the opportunity to participate in the Rangatahi (or Tamariki) Have Got to Get Out programme, with the aim of instilling a lifelong love of being active and an interest in the outdoors.
Founded in 2015 by New Zealander of the Year semi-finalist Robert Bruce, Got To Get Out (GTGO) is a social enterprise outdoors group, on a mission to get disadvantaged youth active, outdoors and into nature to improve their health and wellness.
They have a unique way of teaching tamariki (5-11) and rangatahi (12-18), aiming to create a sense of worth through organised outdoor events and inspiring guides/leaders and role models.
Free to participants and fully guided, GTGO take youth on ‘micro-adventures' of hiking, biking, paddle boarding and camping trips, varying in activity across several weeks during school holidays and weekends.
GTGO is on a mission to enable communities to 'get outdoors' in their own time, safely and regularly around Aotearoa. They aim to help improve mental and physical health, leadership skills and sense of worth for young people and instill a lifelong interest in the outdoors including sustainability and caring for the environtmen plus the skills to host their own trips in the future.
Got to Get Out have half and full day sessions available throughout May for tamariki and rangatahi - get in touch with them to find out more robert@gottogetout.com
