Description
This unmarked route follows a rough roadline across farmland to the park boundary. Note, it doesn't go to the summit.
Getting there
14 km west of Kawhia, turn off SH 31 onto Okupata Road. Follow this for 3.3 km then turn into Pirongia West Road. The route starts approx. 7 km along Pirongia West Road.
Know before you go
- A good level of fitness is required for these tracks.
- Because of poorly drained soils, the tracks can be very muddy, especially after rain.
- The Oparau River is not bridged and can be impassable after heavy rain.
