Waihi Beach to Shelly Bay - Beautiful Bays, High Hills and History

Meeting at the Waihi Beach Coastguard carpark we follow the track up to the trig above the bar at the south end of Waihi Beach. This is a steep climb but it’s no race and the views to Matakana Island and beyond are spectacular. Wending our way down we’ll walk the beach at Anzac Bay then up again and over the hill to the gorgeous Shelly Bay. This beach is a rare gem with crystal clear water and magnificent Pohotukawa. Joining the track again we climb a wee bit more to take in the views of the harbour and meander past the historic Otawhiwhi Marae Cemetary. Back down the track to Anzac Bay where if you choose you can have a picnic of just relax on the beach.
